Where can I find the Armenian Events in Paris, New York, Geneva and Beirut?

It seems to me a mission impossible. I thought that the Armenians are only awake on April 24th to commemorate the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Turks in the Ottoman Empire. A crime that the Turkish Government continues to denial.

Happily a found a website that gave me some hope. The Armenian Community is still alive!  The Armenians are organizing events almost every day somewhere in each continent: Americas, Europe, Middle East and even Asia Pacific!

You can find almost whatever you can think of, such as conferences, festivals, lectures, diners, projections, expositions, fiestas, etc. In most of the major cities in the world, such as: Paris, New York, Beirut, Geneva, Brussels, Barcelona, Romania, Shanghai, etc.

The Armenian community has created a number of associations and organizations almost in each city. Each focusing on diverse target to protect their rich heritage. A heritage that can be summarized in three words:

  • Christian belief
  • Armenian language
  • A culture

These are the three building blocks of the Armenian identity. Which remains the main pillars! In every Armenian event, you can find a bit of each of these components broadcasted during the event.

Furthermore, while visiting the major cities in the world, you can find the Armenian Churches, true monuments! Look around more closely, most probably you will see what we call a Khatchkar. A khatchkar is an artistic stone presenting a cross. Each khatchkar is unique and you cannot find the same model of a khatchkar twice. Hence, take your time to contemplate the one that you have in front of you!

Now I can understand better the famous quotes of William Saroyan: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia. See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.

The new Armenia is not built at every corner in this universe. Some people tried to anneal back in 1915s. They outcome was the complete opposite!
