Voice over Internet Protocol

The acronym VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is considered to be a revolutionary product of technology when it comes to long-distance communication. Voice over Internet Protocol is defined as a process by which analog audio signals are taken and are converted into digital data. This process makes it possible for the audio signals to be transmitted over the Internet. Also, VoIP makes it possible to deliver a unique and more advanced approach in rendering telephone communications through the Internet. 

VoIP software are able to make ways to make a standard Internet connection into a way to place free phone calls. These software are able to make phone calls over the Internet, thus freeing the user of all the charges that may be implemented on phone-to-phone calls. In this way, VoIP technologies are able to provide free but fast phone calls.  

There are three forms of VoIP technologies commonly used. The first form uses what we call the analog telephone adaptor, or ATA. It is an analog-digital converter that allows the connection between a standard phone and a computer or an Internet connection. Some ATAs are very easy to install and are even free, while some require additional software in order to function. The next form is what we call the IP phones. They are equipped with an Ethernet connector, making them capable of rendering direct connections to a router. The third and most convenient form of VoIP is the computer-to-computer form, which only requires low-cost or even free software to acquire. This form of VoIP is free of charge, regardless of the distance of the call.
