Researchers and nutritionists alike urge people who consume alcohol to drink in moderation. How much is the right quantity to be considered drinking in moderation? According to dietary guidelines set down by the US government, moderate alcohol beverage intake equals one drink per day for women and for men have more than two per day. Ideally, these drinks would be with a meal. Standard serving sizes are 12 ounces for beer, 5 ounces for wine, and 1.5 ounces for distilled spirits that are 80 proof.
