  1. Almonds are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids that promote the production of HDL the good cholesterol. This good cholesterol will deal with the bad one naturally. These monounsaturated fats will also prevent the oxidization of the bad cholesterol which clogs the arteries. Snack on a few almonds every day.
  2. Avocados are tasty and crunchy fruit that can also be useful as a cholesterol lowering food. Avocados contain high amount of monounsaturated fats that can lower the LDL levels. They can be easily added to the salads, blend to a creamy texture as a salad dressing or dips etc.
  3. Beans and legumes are packed with soluble fiber and protein. These soluble fibers can rid of the bad cholesterol from the blood. Half a cup of beans or other legumes a day can bring down 8% of the total cholesterol within a few weeks. Try to use freshly cooked legumes and if canned ones are being used, wash away the sodium from it.
  4. Green tea has the catechin polyphenols that can lower the LDL cholesterol in blood. Even though Green tea is not the most potent food for lowering the cholesterol, regular intake of this can bring some change. It has low calories so can be used as a weight loss drink as well. It makes a healthier option for a lifestyle change.
  5. Oats especially the whole oatmeal contain high amount of soluble fiber. This soluble fiber can absorb the cholesterol and get it out of the system.
  6. Olive oil is abundant in monounsaturated fatty acids that can promote the HDL and lower LDL cholesterol. Moreover, olive oil has the phenolics substances that prevent the blood clotting. it is mainly the antioxidants in the olive oil that lowers the LDL level and prevent production of too much triglycerides. Always choose the extra virgin olive oil for lowering the cholesterol.
  7. Red Wine contains more antioxidants and is a capable cholesterol lowering food. One glass of wine per day is sufficient for women to bring down their cholesterol levels while men can have a second serving as a healthy dose. The polyphenol antioxidants can lower the LDL in blood. The effect is same with grape juice as well.
  8. Salmon has omega 3 fatty acids that can improve the HDL levels. Studies revealed that salmon in daily diet improved the HDL levels by 10%. It is also found that these omega 3 fatty acids could bring down the triglycerides also.
  9. Steamed vegetables such as asparagus, cauliflower, carrots, okras, beets, green beans etc help them be able to bind to the bile acids. This bile acid will be unavailable for the digestion process, forcing the liver to use the LDL to make more bile juice. Thus the LDL level is kept under check by these vegetables.
  10. Walnuts contain the omega 3 fatty acids that can produce the good cholesterol HDL. A balanced amount of HDL in the blood can regulate the LDL levels. These omega 3 fatty acids itself can lower the LDL levels.
