From this list, we managed to track down and interview 218 of them. It is said that hindsight is a powerful tool. These tips for hiring removalist services in Australia were created after we spoke with these people.

But First, the Stats:

Out of 218 people we spoke with, 104 (almost half), said they just picked a furniture removalist from the Yellow Pages. No, there wasn’t so much as curtsey check to make sure they picked the right one. Of the remaining 114 people, 61 said they called up friends and relatives and selected the recommended removalist service provider. 53 customers Googled for furniture removalist service providers in and around the place they lived and selected one from the list that Google.com.au provided. Of these 53 customers only 12 read more than one page of the website link they clicked on and only 4 visited more than one website before selecting what they felt was a good furniture removalist.

Of the 218 that we began with, 61 said the entire move went well and they had no complaints. Of the remainder, 18 had filed insurance claims for damages and or loss of household furniture while the remainder 139 either said they were less than satisfied with the quality of service they received or were averagely satisfied with the quality. All 139 said they might not be inclined to re-hire the same furniture removalist service provider again.

The 4 who had visited more than one website were part of these 61 who had no complaints as were 57 from amongst the 61 folks who had called up friends and relatives and selected the recommended removalist service provider.

We asked all of them for tips they would like to pass on to customers who might want to hire a furniture removalist services in Australia.

Tip # 1 – Call lots of friends and relatives and create a list of good furniture removalist. Alternatively, Google for reviews or customer feedback on furniture removalist service providers in Australia.

Tip # 2 – Visit each website from the list you created. Is the website informative and detailed? Is the furniture removalist a member of Australian Furniture Removers Association (AFRA)? If satisfied with what you read, place a tick mark against their name on your list and read what options that Sydney Removalist provides. Make a note of their phone number and also what to ask for if and when you speak with them.

Tip # 3 – Start making your calls selecting only those against whom you place a tick. Mention the preferred date and time, the destination and the items to be moved. Ask about the cost, inclusions and exclusions. Do they have downloadable sample contract? If you like what you hear, highlight their name on your list and request for a quotation.

Tip # 4 – Google for reviews for each of the names of furniture removalist service provider you have highlighted.

Tip # 5 – Shorten the list to one or two names based on the reviews you have read. Re-visit their website to make sure you have not missed anything and select one of them as your furniture removalist service provider.
