Traditional clothing in India varies across different parts of the country and it is influenced by culture, geography, and climate. Culture changes with the change in time and the social situation. For men, Achkan, Bandhgala, Lungi, Kurta, Angrakha, Jama and Dhoti are the traditional clothes. But, recently shirts and pants have been adapted as traditional Indian dress by the Indian government. But still, sherwani signifies the rich traditional fashion style of India.

A sherwani is a long garment which resembles an Achkan, worn in the Indian subcontinent. It is very similar to a British frock coat or a polish Japan. Traditionally, it was associated with the Indian subcontinent. It is worn over a kurta with the combination of either a dhoti, a churidar, a pyjama, as the lower body clothing.

People from Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Jammu and Hydrebad wear this as a formal wear in winter. Generally, Achkan sherwani is associated with the Hindus while the simple sherwani is favoured by Muslims. Achkans are lengthier than simple sherwanis and Sherwanis are more flared at the hips. Sherwanis are mostly worn in india, Bangladesh and Pakistan. One major difference between sherwani wearing habits is the choice of lower garment. People from India prefers churidar and dhotis as a lower garment and people from Bangladesh prefer salwars instead.
