The satellite antenna is an artificial satellite, which is placed in space. The main purpose of satellite antenna is to serve communication. It solves the purpose of reconnaissance with the use of radio at microwave frequencies. An earth station is located on the ground, which use to transmit the radio waves. The satellite antenna use geosynchronous orbit beside recent system with the earth orbiting satellite.
Tips for satellite antenna
Mostly satellite antenna is build of materials of junk that most of the people want it to throw away. It is very easy to make a satellite antenna. Build a VHF or UHF ground plane antenna and larger wire scrap. The vertical element should be soldered to the conductor located in the center. Attach all the four corners with the nuts and bolts. Vertical element should be built a bit longer then calculated. Radials should be bend down almost twenty five to thirty degrees. Connector flange is not too far away as the distance is very small. The vertical element should be trimmed in comparatively smaller increments to obtain minimum SWR towards the lower end, where the will be done. The SWR should be lowest near the center when it starts to go back. If it is not possible then trim the SWR wire till it is finished. Bend the radials one by one to obtain one to one SWR.
Another important source of antenna material, which can be recycled, is the corroded junked ham beams. First step is to disassemble the aluminum element from present in the boom. Give an acid bath to the elements that are being disassembled. Drill the holes on one boom away from the existing holes. The distance should be around 2.5 cms. Secure all the elements with the new metal screws in a way that the size is larger then the original size. This is done to serve the purpose that new screws fitted well in the old holes. While constructing the antenna try not to lower the expenses by not using bad quality products. Always use the products made up of stainless steel. The extra cost will be compensated in the coming years when there will be low maintenance cost.
