HTC U12 LIFE, First Take: Solid Middle Class Features and Iintelligent Industrial Design

Although HTC is not the manufacturer of mobile phones it once was, the company still produces a steady stream of smartphones. The high-end HTC U12 Plus did not bother us when he appeared last year, but now I finally had the chance to play with his mid-range alter ego, the U12 Life. Is it better?

Well, for £ 290 without a SIM card at the time of writing, this phone is right in the middle of a very competitive market sector, so it needs some excellent features.

One is the design of the back of the phone. About two-thirds have laser cut a series of horizontal stripes, while the upper third is smooth and much more reflective. This means that the headset is relatively tight to hold, and the double style seems distinctive. That's a double plus. The back does not seem to attract many fingerprints as many phones. Another triple, then...

This is a relatively large telephone with a size of 75.4 mm wide by 158.5 mm deep by 8.3 mm thick and weighs 175 g. A screen of 6 inches, 18: 9, and 1.080 x 2.160 pixels makes Life U12 especially suitable for media consumption. You can adjust the color temperature of the screen using a slider that moves between the warmer and colder shades, but there is no notch in the front camera, a feature that is usually reserved for advanced phones. Stereo speakers provide good volume and sound of the right quality but get a bit of volume at higher volumes.

The present is 64GB of internal storage space, of which 53.17 GB is free. You can add storage capacity via a MicroSD card, although you must use one of the two SIM card slots.

Even for this price, people expect a dual camera system and HTC is delivered correctly with a 16 MP main camera and a 5 MP secondary camera for depth detection. I discovered that the photos were of acceptable quality, and the depth sensor facilitated obtaining booked effects (clear subject, blurred background). The 13-megapixel selfie/video camera on the front has the unusual addition of a flash, making selfies in low light possible.

The Snapdragon 636 chipset, supported by 4 GB of RAM, offers sufficient performance for most applications, apart from high-end games. He obtained Geekbench 4 CPU scores of 4954 (multi-core) and 1337 (single-core); Similar phones are the Asus Zenfone 5 and the Motorola MotoOne, which has the additional advantage of regular Android updates via Android One.

The previous version of this HTC phone came with Android One, but now it is replaced with Android 8.1, with the overlay of the HTC Sense user interface at the top. One of the most striking features is HTC Blink Feed, an alternative tailored to the Android news and information offer from HTC. The lateral compression feature of HTC, Edge Sense, is absent, some of which will regret and others will not.

The 3600mAh battery in this handheld unit scored 4744 on the Geek bench battery test and lasted 8 hours and 16 minutes, so the daily use of the network power must remain within its capacity.

The HTC U12 Life is a good budget phone, but there is nothing that sets it apart from the rest.
