Many students’ lead hectic lives, between school, after-school activities, and social calendars, and it doesn’t always leave much time to relax. Students spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to juggle it all without letting one slip too far. In order to lead a balanced lifestyle, it is important to prioritize and organize.

One way to help balance life is to first examine how time is spent currently. Is it wasted for hours on the internet instead of doing homework? Or is it hanging out with friends when you should be studying for a test or working on a project? In order to remedy this, make a schedule. Draw up a weekly schedule with time slots for every activity such as hanging out with friends, time for doing homework, and that baseball practice after school. Leave a little gap time in between each as it is always good to have a cushion, but don’t stray from the schedule. It is a slippery slope after that. It may be hard at first, but after a while, the schedule will become routine and much easier to abide by.

Another method that goes hand in hand with scheduling is to prioritize. Sit down and make a list of all the activities and then rank them in order of importance. The rank will affect their time allotment in the schedule. More important activities should be given more time whereas less important ones should be given less or be moved to a day where there is more free time such as the weekends.

Don’t forget to leave a little leg room as unexpected things can occur and throw off scheduling plans. Also, schedule a little unscheduled time to relax and do whatever you feel like. Being overscheduled can be a stressor.

One of the most important things to do when it comes to balancing all of life’s little nuances is to remember to get enough sleep. Sleep keeps people rested and happy. A well-rested mind is more likely to do well on exams than one that is not.

Balancing school and social activities can be a challenge and sometimes sacrifices must be made, but the benefits of living a healthy, balanced lifestyle outweigh them in the long run. If you prioritize and organize, it is more likely that life will become manageable. A balanced lifestyle creates a healthier and happier person who is less stressed and ready to take on the world.
