Antenna is an electronic device. Basically it is an aerial electronic conductor. Heinrich Hertz discovered an antenna in 1886. The antennas convert the radio frequency electric current into an electromagnetic wave. Antennas are used in radio and television broadcasting. They also have an application in communication systems, radar and space exploration. Many of the antennas are placed in the outer space. Now a day the new antennas are used under water, through soil, and rock at certain frequencies for short distances. The antennas were first used to prove the existence of electromagnetic waves.

HDTV:

An HDTV is nothing but a high definition television. It is transmission of a pure digital television signals. It receives and displays the signals on a high definition digital TV set. The high definition digital signals are broadcasted over the air or transmitted by a cable. HDTV signals can be received in a number of different ways. The satellites provide the signals to the HDTV. They offer HD content. But it is illegal for the satellite services to carry local HD services. Many of the users use cable to get HD programming. The users can get HDTV signals via OTA via a regular UHF TV antenna. This is the easiest and cheapest way of getting an HDTV signals. Many of the HDTV have HD tuner inside.

HDTV antennas:

These are the antennas that are used to receive the air signals from the broadcast TV stations. They are placed on the roof or placed on the top of a television, just like a normal antenna. There are mainly two types of HDTV antennas one being the indoor antenna and the other is outdoor antenna. The outdoor HDTV antennas should be mounted on a rotor as high in the dwelling is possible. Many of the HDTV antennas can be controlled by a remote control. With these antennas it is possible to get a good digital picture quality. The quality of the picture directly depends on the strength of the signal and distance from the transmitter. An antenna helps in getting better quality of picture. The air HDTV can be received using an ordinary TV antenna.
