Healthcare today requires an array of doctors, pharmacies, hospitals, and outpatient providers. All too often, medical reports and laboratory results done in one setting are not available to another healthcare provider. The result is needless duplication of tests and a loss of vital information.

Google has created a solution to this problem, and it is called Google Health. Google Health is a free product that uses the internet and Google’s expertise at storing and managing large amounts of data to provide users with one central location for storing, updating, and sharing their medical information. With a Google username and password, you can create your own personal health record.

Those with complex medical histories and multiple specialists will find it easy to share their information with numerous providers. Each medical professional receives the same medical information that is complete and accurate.

Google Health gives you control of your medical information. Use it to store your medical diagnoses, surgery dates, medications, allergies, and contacts. Any file stored on your computer can be uploaded to your profile. If your hospital or pharmacy is a Google Health Partner, you can import medical records such as medications or laboratory results directly into your profile. There are links to other partners who can help you obtain and import your records into your profile.

Once you enter your information, it is accessible from any computer, and you control who sees it. You can give access to your family member or your physician, or print your profile. At any time, you can change who is allowed to view your profile, and even permanently delete your information.

Google understands the importance of privacy in medical records and will keep your personal information secure; it is never shared without your specific consent, and your personal health information will never show up as a result of a search.

Google Health is more than an information storage site. It is a place that helps you to better manage your healthcare.
