Fountains add beauty and charm to many homes and offices. However , they need to be maintained from time to time so they have a long and lasting life time. The water fountains require very little maintenance. They need to be wiped clean now and then . The water level needs to be checked to prevent damage to the pump.

How To Maintain Copper Fountains

Some of the copper fountains have protective clear coating to prevent the surface from turning green. The powder coated copper fountains needs to be wiped clean and dusted frequently to maintain the new look. Never use copper cleaner, since it can damage the powder coating. Instead use furniture polish or apply turtle wax once in six months. The white parts on the copper parts can be cleaned off with CLR(calcium lime remover). Make sure that none of the cleaning agents falls into the water, as this can damage the pump.

Maintaining Stainless Steel Fountains

Stainless steel fountains are resistant to corrosion. They are virtually maintenance free. To remove the fingerprints from stainless steel wipe it with damp sponge or soft cloth. If the fountain develops scale treat the water with protec. This will remove the scales and prevents the reoccurrence.

Acrylic Fountains- How to maintain

Use the proper cleaning solution to clean the acrylic fountain. Remove the water before cleaning. While cleaning, gently wipe the fountain with soft cloth and also use plastic cleaner. To avoid the scratches or to remove the scratches use Novus Polish. However , deep scratches can be removed only with restoration kits.

Maintaining Correct Water Level

To preserve the life of the pump correct water level should be maintained. Fountains are natural humidifiers and amount of water the fountain consumes depends on how dry the air is. Small quantity of water should be added each day .

Pump Maintenance

Make sure that the pump is fully submerged in the water. Also check to make sure that the pump is not vibrating against the fountain basin or the copper bottom. The pump can be isolated using an old sponge underneath it or beside it to minimize the vibrations.

The water of the fountain should be changed when the entire fountain is cleaned. The water treatments like fountec and protec is recommended to prevent the growth.
