If someone wants to lose fat or change the body, one of the most important things to do is lift weight. Diet and cardio are equally important but when it comes to changing how the body looks, weight training wins hands down. If someone is hesitated to start strength training program due to busy schedule and not missing the television show. Now it may motivate someone to know that lifting weights can help raise the metabolism. Strengthen bones, especially important for women and it can be done at home watching television. It increases confidence and self-esteem and improves coordination and balance too.
How to start:
Getting started with strength training can be confusing. What exercises to do? How many sets and reps? How much weight? The routine one chooses will be based on the fitness goals as well as the equipment available and the time for workouts. If someone is setting up the own program the one need to know some basic strength training principles. These principles will teach how to make sure to use enough weight, determine the sets and reps and insure to progress in the workouts. If someone wants to get stronger, then use more resistance than the muscles are used to. These exercises can be done at home with pleasure of watching TV.
Progression:
In order to avoid plateaus one need to increase the intensity. With strength training, one can do this by increasing the amount of weight lifted, increasing the sets, increasing or changing the exercises or change the rest intervals between sets. Always warm up before starting lifting weights. This helps get the muscles warm and prevent injury. One can warm up with light cardio or by doing a light set of each exercise before going to heavier weights. Lift and lower the weights slowly. Do not use energy to lift the weight. If someone has to swing to get the weight up, chances of using too much weight. Do not hold the breath and make sure using full range of motion throughout the movement. Stand up straight and pay attention to the posture and keep everything straight. Engage the abs in every movement one is doing to keep the balance and protect the spine. The best part of weight exercise is that it can be done at home without missing television program.
