COVID and your eyes

The Covid-19 virus has been a major topic of discussion for the past few months. The main reason behind this is because it can spread through your eyes. This means that you could potentially contract the virus from someone else through contact with bodily fluids such as blood, saliva, and mucus. If your eye is causing you irritation, best is to visit a good optician in Sri Lanka who will recommend the proper type of eye testing in Sri Lanka in order to check what is wrong. Under the current circumstances it is not recommended that you touch your eyes even if they are itchy.

If your hands have been exposed to the virus or touched a surface that has been exposed to the virus and you immediately touch your eyes before washing them, then you too could get infected. This means that if your hands have been exposed to the virus and you immediately touch your eyes, then you could contract Covid-19. You should wash your hands with soap and water as soon as possible after exposure, so that this does not happen. Or even use hand sanitizer on your hands immediately after exposure.

It is important to make people, especially children, aware about how transmission of the virus can occur through the eyes, nose and mouth. It is essential that you don’t touch your face regularly after being outside or in an area where there could be contamination (especially while out in public or crowded areas), because this is the primary manner in which you can contract the virus. Covid-19 is an air borne disease, so you can catch if someone coughs or sneezes contaminating any hard surfaces you might touch and then touch your eyes or face, or you breathe it in.

Regularly washing your hands with soap and warm water will help reduce any chance of becoming sick from this disease. You should also avoid touching surfaces where others who are infected could have touched, such as handrails, lift buttons etc. It is equally important to wear face masks and face shields so that you are protected at all times from this dreadful disease.
