Spreading out

Bedding is a piece of cloth that is spread out on a bed. Bed sheets, bed covers, bed spreads, bed skirts etc. and many more all form beddings. It also includes duvet covers, pillow covers etc.

Types of beddings

Bed sheet, pillow covers and bed covers form the basic bedding. This is minimum the linen that is required for a bed to be maintained. Bed cover is the sheet that is put on the bed sheets to protect them from dust and the daily rustle. Bed spread just about covers mattress to mattress length. Bed skirts are tucked in from the edge of the bed to the floor. Quilts are thick sheets that can be drawn over for casual mid-day sleep. Pillow covers are protected by shams spread out in the day time.
Beddings play a very important role in the look of a room. It not only projects the image of your bedroom to others, but also makes you feel good about yourself when you are surrounded by clean, bright linen.
Beddings come in all types of prints. Floral print is never out of fashion and looks good on any size of bed. Stripes work well with smaller beds and large spotted design should be avoided for large beds. Girls can go in for pretty doll prints and boys like to have bold prints.
Usually bold print on a white or off white background looks fresh. Light colored print on dark colored background looks pretty different but becomes ‘heavy’ to look at and needs to be changed after a short while.
While selecting the beddings for your bedroom, it should be seen to that all the separate linens may not be of the same color, but as a whole they should project a co ordinated look. While buying, you must spread the sheets to their full length and only then make a decision, since sometimes we like a particular print in the packing but may not like it when spread out onto the bed.
Storage of beddings is an important issue, which needs to be taken into consideration while designing furniture for the bedroom.

Laying it down

Last but not the least, laying down the linen and spreading it out creaselessly not only makes it look fresh but also helps in maintenance.
