The basic functions of the storage node are to provide data to the cached content delivery nodes and to protect the source servers by implementing the content in the hierarchical model to facilitate level caching. Original nodes are the main nodes that store the content. The number of origin nodes can be increased to allow scalable and resilient operations. All CDN components, including management, routing, monitoring, are hosted on the control node.

CDN implementation typically runs across multiple sites and extends across multiple backbones to reduce bandwidth costs and improve page load times, as well as overall availability of content. Different forms of CDN architectures can be designed to meet individual workloads and needs.

Content delivery networks can primarily handle three types of content: static content, dynamic content, and streaming content. Static content is produced using standard programming languages, such as Java, PHP, or ruby, while static content such as CSS, images, and JavaScript are not associated with any changes. The demand for streaming content (audio or video files) is growing.
