Things to Know Before You Buy Tyres

One of the most important choices that you will make for your car is to buy tyres online in Sri Lanka. The tyre is the most important point of contact between the vehicle and the ground, as we like to remind our customers. Aspects such as grip, tread, rolling resistance and wear should be properly considered because they can have a considerable effect on overall handling and performance, especially in wet or dry conditions.

You can check whether your tires are worn or just part-worn in order to determine if it is time to purchase a new set of tires. Owing to corrosion or tire age, even though the tires are just part-worn, they can need to be replaced. You must first identify the correct tire dimension, plus the load index and the speed rating, to match the right tire to the wheel. We'll show you where this vital knowledge can be found and how. Plus, do you line your wheels with summer tires, winter tires, or all-season tires? We clarify the variations in this segment and discuss the choices.

Hence when purchasing tyres from online tyre shops in Sri Lanka, it is vital that you check the following;

Tyre code

It is necessary to review the tire code before purchasing tires; it includes details on the key specifications, such as load and speed ratings, rim diameter, etc.

The code's first letter may be as follows:

  • Regular tires suit most commercial vehicles, P for Passenger tires.
  • LT for Light Truck: tires with improved ability to bear loads.
  • ST for Special Trailer- For greater vertical loads, tires with thicker sidewalls.
  • T for Temporary: replacement tires.

The thread width which is the distance between sidewall edges is measured in millimeters by this three-digit number.

A slash is accompanied by the aspect ratio which shows the comparison of section height to section width. For starters, aspect ratio 65 means the height of the section is 65 percent of the width of the section. The lower the ratio, the easier it would be to steer the tyre.

DOT Code

Every manufacturer's plant has its own 2-3-symbol code in every region. A database of all available plant codes is provided by the Tire Protection Community, so you can search this detail.

Tyre scale is indicated by the two following symbols. This code localization, though, isn't for clients. It affects manufacturers, and for them, it is often molded. These codes make identifying tyres that need to be recalled simpler for them. The Rubber Manufacturers Association has a manual which is updated every now and then.

This 3-4-symbol code is moulded specifically for the purposes of manufacturers: with this code they identify a tyre and recognize it if appropriate.

For any driver, the date code is important, since it tells exactly how old the tire is. A tyre lasts for a lifetime of 10 years, regardless of whether it is stored or pushed in your garage/shop. When your old package turns 6 years old, most producers suggest purchasing tyres.

UTGQ code

Treadwear - This ranking is a 3-digit code, with regular wear being 100, twice as much as 200, etc. This is an approximation which is based on the experiments carried out by the respective suppliers. The index can become meaningless under severe conditions or improper maintenance.

Traction - In letters: AA, A, B, C, from the best to the lowest, this consistency is assessed. The traction test tests the stopping of a vehicle on wet asphalt and pavement and the coefficient calculation in g (g-force).

Temperature resistance - This function is often represented in letters: A, B, C. This indicates the rate at which heat can be safely dissipated by a tyre, and is measured in mph. A is greater than 115 mph, B is 100-115 mph, and C is 85-100 mph.

The type of tyre

Ultra-high performance - All-season and summer (three-season) UHP tyres are there. To do best in snowy weather, the first type will give up some wet and dry traction. The second has enhanced grip on surfaces that are damp and dry and zero on snow and ice.

The all-season tuck tyres - These tyres, suitable for SUVs and pickups, are manufactured to handle excess loads. Other functions are under adequate limits, such as grip and wear.
